Essential Tips for Choosing a Plumber
At some point in time, every homeowner will need a plumber. It’s a fact of life. Choosing the right plumber is an important decision. Research is key! To help you out, I’ve put together a short list of some essential tips to help you make the right choice for your home or business.
Online Research – Reviews
What’s the first step that most people do when choosing a plumber? They go on their computer and look for a recommendation from Google.
However, what some homeowners don’t do is check other companies such as “Angie’s List”. Angie’s List is a GREAT resource to find a plumber! (as well as other licensed professionals) This is a great start, but what you should also be looking for is if this particular plumber has the required license to operate in your city.
Do they Carry a Current Plumber’s License?
After your initial search, the first thing I would recommend is checking to make sure that they do have the required license. While I’m at it, I would also check to see if there are any complaints against the company. Again, Angie’s List and/or the Better Business Bureau would be a great start!
Reputable plumbers will list their state plumber’s license on their website. Then you can go to the state’s licensing board and look them up. Here is the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners website.
Are They Insured?
The next step I would recommend is to make sure that the plumbers have worker’s compensation and liability insurance policies for the entire company. Better safe than sorry! You want to make sure that any possible on the job injuries are covered!
Ask Friends and Family
Once you have chosen a prospective plumber, the next step I would recommend is asking your friends and neighbors for their feedback. Have they used that particular plumber or plumbing company? How was the service? Would they use them again? Remember, good reviews from friends and families are important! Also, if your friends or family had a plumbing remodeling job, they can show you the final outcome. They probably took photos of the job through each stage!
Price – Cheaper Can Be More Expensive!
One mistake that homeowners make is choosing a plumber because they were quoted a low price. Price alone should not be a factor in making a decision on which one to use. Don’t go with a plumbing company just because they quote you the lowest price. Make sure you get the service and quality workmanship that you deserve and that will serve your home for years to come.
Quite often a DIY or a cheap plumbing job can cost a lot more to fix, because more damage may have been caused and a lot of work needs to be redone. Don’t have a plumbing horror story in your home!
The final outcome. You’ve chosen your plumber, you’ve had your job completed, and now you can make your final judgement on the company that you have chosen.
- Were they dependable?
- Did they help you out and answer all of your questions before the job was started?
- Did the job get completed on time?
A good plumber is easy to find as long as they are dependable! Were they dependable? If yes, then you have chosen wisely!
Now it’s your turn to leave a review so that the next homeowner who is looking for a dependable plumber can find one, and you can say to yourself. “Yes, I left a review and helped someone out”.
