Garbage Disposal Repair in Plano & DFW

A garbage disposal that hums, leaks, or won't turn on is usually a quick fix or a straightforward replacement. We diagnose it on the spot — written flat-rate quote before any work starts.

Common Garbage Disposal Problems

Humming but not spinning: the grinding plate is jammed, usually by a foreign object. Won’t turn on at all: tripped internal thermal overload (reset button on the bottom) or a failed motor. Leaking from the bottom: internal seal failure, usually means replacement is warranted. Leaking from the top (sink flange): the mounting gasket or flange putty has failed — this is a repair, not a replacement. Slow drainage from the disposal: connected drain line needs clearing.

What We Do

We diagnose before we quote. If it’s a jammed plate, we clear it. If it’s the reset or thermal issue, we test it. If the motor is failed or the unit is leaking from the bottom and it’s more than 8 years old, we replace it with a quality unit and warranty the installation.

What Not to Put in a Garbage Disposal

Grease and oil. Fibrous foods like celery and artichoke. Potato peels and starchy foods (they form paste). Eggshells (a myth — they don’t sharpen blades; they contribute to buildup). Bones. Non-food items. Treating it like a trash can shortens its life significantly.

Garbage Disposal Repair in Plano & DFW — Common Questions

Straight answers before you call.

My disposal just hums — is it broken?

Usually not. A humming disposal is jammed. First, press the reset button on the bottom of the unit. Then use the hex wrench that fits the center socket on the bottom to manually rotate the grinding plate. If it still doesn't run after that, the motor may have burned out.

Can I fix a leaking garbage disposal myself?

Depends on where it's leaking. A drip from the sink flange on top is a sealant or gasket repair — manageable if you're comfortable under a sink. A leak from the bottom of the unit is an internal seal failure — the unit needs replacement. We can diagnose which is which.

How long do garbage disposals last?

Quality disposals last 8–12 years with normal use. If yours is at or past that range and has a motor or seal failure, replacement is almost always more cost-effective than repair.

Do you install replacement disposals?

Yes. We remove the old unit, install the new disposal, connect it to the drain and dishwasher line, test the electrical connection, and verify it runs clean. Same-visit in most cases.

What size disposal do I need?

Horsepower matters more than physical size. A 3/4 HP or 1 HP unit handles normal household use without jamming. We can recommend based on your usage and the existing drain configuration.
